As a part of continuing the institution’s commitment to educating students in an engaging and holistic way, the ϲͼ Lyceum Series has been revamped. The series will feature notable headliners that will educate, enlighten and entertain both the university and surrounding communities.
The series is part of the Student Engagement Initiatives program, which is among the institution’s priorities on ϲͼ's vision document. The mission of the Lyceum Series is to engage students, faculty, staff, and the greater Tuskegee community. The high caliber features are aimed at enriching the overall education experience for audiences.
Below are the performers and speakers from the 2017-2018 academic year.
FEBRUARY 2018
Lonnie George Johnson is an American inventor and alumnus of ϲͼ. A native of Mobile, Alabama, Johnson completed degrees in mechanical and nuclear engineering at Tuskegee, then went on to work for the U.S. Air Force and NASA. After toying around with the idea of a high-powered water gun, Johnson’s “Super Soaker” became a top-selling item by the early 1990s. He has since been developing the Johnson Thermoelectric Energy Converter (JTEC), an engine that converts heat directly into electricity, among other projects.

Dr. Danielle Spencer earned her doctorate in veterinary medicine from ϲͼ in 1993. She is best known for her role as the bratty little sister Dee Thomas on the ABC sitcom “What’s Happening," which ran from 1976 to 1979. She later reprised her role in the series’ sequel, “What’s Happening Now!!” Born in Trenton, New Jersey, Spencer became an actor around the age of 8. She originally began her veterinary medicine studies at the University of California-Davis, but placed those studies on hold during the height of her acting career. After broadcast of “What’s Happening Now!!” concluded in 1988, Spencer resumed her veterinary medicine studies at ϲͼ and graduated in 1993.
