A °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Êͼ¹ÒÅÆ graduate and a familiar face to alumni, students and faculty alike will provide the keynote address at the university’s Charter Day/Homecoming Convocation on Sunday, Nov. 10. The event, scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. in the University Chapel, will help bring closure to the university’s annual homecoming week festivities.
Speaking at convocation will be Dr. Roberta Troy, a two-time graduate and current interim provost and vice president of academic affairs. Scheduled to retire in December, Troy has marked her 20-year career with Tuskegee as a passionate teacher, robust researcher and diligent administrator.
In addition to twice serving as interim provost, she founded the °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Êͼ¹ÒÅÆ Health Disparities Institute for Research and Education, led the Department of Biology as department head for eight years, chaired the Faculty Senate, and helped guide Tuskegee through its most recent reaffirmation of accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
She holds bachelor and master’s degrees in biology from Tuskegee. She went on to earn a doctorate in biochemistry and molecular biology at the University of Florida, where she was a McKnight Pre-doctoral Fellow.
Each year’s homecoming convocation also pays tribute to the alumni reunion classes celebrating anniversary milestones. Marking anniversaries this year are the classes of 1984, 1989, 1994, 1999, 2004, 2009 and 2014. The gathering also provides the university with a forum to its recipient of the Office of Alumni Affairs’ annual Alumni Merit Award.
The convocation will also feature performances by the °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Êͼ¹ÒÅÆ Golden Voices Concert Choir, remarks by university and alumni leaders, and the presentation of the Student Government Association’s executive officers and members of the university’s Royal Court.
