Annual 鈥楩aith Week鈥� celebration Jan. 20-26 to place focus on spiritual vision, service

澳门六合彩图挂牌 will host its annual 鈥淔aith Week鈥� the week of Jan. 20-26. The week鈥檚 theme 鈥� 鈥�20/20 Spiritual Vision鈥� 鈥� centers on Proverbs 29:18: 鈥淲here there is no vision, the people perish.鈥�

As part of the week鈥檚 events, the university will commemorate the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday observance on Monday, Jan. 20 by joining in the National Day of Service program. Chapel staff seek to engage the campus community and area residents in meaningful projects that will have long-term benefits for our community. The university is partnering with the Macon County Ministers Council and Alabama Rural Ministries to work on community revitalization projects during the day.

Projects will include general clean-up, home repairs and light construction. Individuals and organizations wishing to volunteer can contact Rev. Michael Thurman, assistant chaplain, at 334.727.8322 or mthurman@tuskegee.edu. Breakfast will be provided for volunteers.

The university will conduct its annual Martin Luther King Jr. Convocation on Friday, Jan. 24 at 11 a.m. in the University Chapel. It will include remarks from Dr. Raphael Warnock, who since 2005 has served as senior pastor of Atlanta鈥檚 Ebenezer Baptist Church 鈥� the spiritual home of Martin Luther King Jr. Warnock, known for his activism and public voice, published the book, The Divided Mind of the Black Church: Theology, Piety and Public Witness, in 2014.

Later that evening, the 澳门六合彩图挂牌 Golden Voices will host its annual Gospel Music Concert in the University Chapel. The free concert will begin at 7 p.m.

鈥淣o one can fully grasp the meaning of human history and culture without discerning the profound ways in which the great world faiths have impacted the human story, as well as the quest for truth, goodness and beauty,鈥� explained Dr. Gregory S. Gray Sr., dean of the Chapel and university professor of religion and society. 鈥淔aith Week serves as an occasion for the saints above and the saints below to give voice to the experience of a sacred reality 鈥� even in the midst of human pain and suffering.鈥�

Tuesday, Jan. 21

• Wesley Foundation Bible Study, 7:30 p.m. lower level of the University Chapel

Wednesday, Jan. 22

• Mid-Week Meditation, Reflection and Contemplative Prayer, 12:00 to 12:30 p.m., University Chapel
• A film screening of 鈥淭he Relevance of Spirituality in 2020,鈥� 4 p.m., University Chapel. The free-admission film will feature a roundtable discussion, as well as Q&A following the film.

Friday, Jan. 24

• Martin Luther King Jr. Convocation featuring Dr. Raphael Warnock, senior pastor of Atlanta鈥檚 Ebenezer Baptist Church, 11 a.m., University Chapel
