Tuskegee, Alabama — ϲͼ is proud to announce Gloria Washington Jackson as the recipient of the inaugural Booker T. Washington Lifetime Achievement Award. The Embracing the Legacy gala, dedicated to celebrating the enduring legacy of Booker T. Washington, will take place on March 15, 2024, at the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta.
Gloria Washington Jackson is the granddaughter of the university’s founder. She is the youngest and sole survivor of four daughters born to Ernest Davidson Washington, Booker T. Washington’s youngest son and Edith Merriwether Washington Shehee. She was blessed, she says, to be raised with the strong principles and values emanating from the teachings at Tuskegee: In particular, the need to educate the whole person – the head, the heart and the hand. She considers it a great honor and privilege to have been born in the bloodline of such a remarkable man.
"Gloria Jackson exemplifies the enduring spirit of Booker T. Washington through her unwavering commitment to faith, education, and personal responsibility,” said Dr. Charlotte P. Morris, President of ϲͼ. “She is a beacon of inspiration, and it is with great pleasure that we present her with the inaugural Booker T. Washington Lifetime Achievement Award. Her dedication to building a legacy of excellence resonates with the values upheld by Booker T. Washington himself."
The Embracing the Legacy gala promises to be an unforgettable evening, celebrating not only the accomplishments of Gloria Washington Jackson but also the enduring impact of Booker T. Washington's legacy on generations to come.
