Despite the disruptive nature of the COVID-19 pandemic, ϲͼ’s academic leaders and faculty have remained committed to celebrating the scholastic achievement of its students by publishing its annual list of Honor Roll students, Eminent Scholars, University Scholars and honor society inductees for the 2018-19 academic year.
“The current pandemic may have deprived us of the opportunity to pay tribute to our students who have excelled academically and co-curricularly, but they still deserve recognition for their incredible achievements,” said Dr. Carla Jackson Bell, interim provost and vice president for academic affairs. “We may celebrate them from afar, but in no way does that diminish their success in the classroom and through their other educational endeavors.”
The university’s annual Scholarship Convocation typically honors more than 600 students — the majority of which have earned a spot on the university’s academic year Honor Roll. Honor Roll students must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0, a grade point average of no less than 3.25 for the academic year during which their eligibility is determined, and have passed at least 12 semester hours each semester.
During the 2018-19 academic year, 594 students earned a place on the university’s Honor Roll. An additional 33 students were named as 2018-19 Eminent Scholars for maintaining a 4.0 GPA in addition to the other requirements required to be named to the honor roll.
Each year, one student in each of Tuskegee’s colleges and schools is designated as a University Scholar. To qualify as a University Scholar, a student must be eligible for the Annual Honor Roll, be the top-ranking student who has completed at least 90 hours but no more than 110 hours in his or her respective college or school, and show exemplary personal qualities as attested by the dean of his or her major area. This year’s cohort of University Scholars included:
The annual Scholarship Convocation occasion also honors students inducted into the university’s various discipline-specific national honor societies in addition to others like the Golden Key International Honor Society. In all, 18 national honor societies chartered to ϲͼ celebrated inductees during the 2018-19 academic year. The 2019-20 academic year scholarship convocation will return back to the historical date of honoring students in October.
All honorees are listed in this year’s Scholarship Convocation publication.
