For far too long, ϲͼ’s beloved Golden Tiger mascot has lacked a name, but an effort underway now through homecoming is seeking to change that.

Beginning Sept. 27, the university is launching its “Name Our Tiger” campaign, with the goal of giving its tiger mascot a well-deserved name in time for its homecoming game on Saturday, Nov. 9.

“Through this campaign, we’re seeking the participation of our students, alumni, faculty, staff and fans to suggest names for our Golden Tiger mascot, then helping us narrow down our top suggestions through online voting the weeks leading up to the homecoming game,” said campaign organizer Brittney Dabney of the Office of Communications, Public Relations and Marketing.

The first phase of the campaign will allow Golden Tiger fans to suggest names through Friday, Oct. 4, using an online form available at . A committee of student leaders and representatives from communications, alumni affairs, and cheerleading will evaluate those suggestions using criteria that include each submitted name’s appropriateness, popularity and originality.

The committee will narrow down the list of suggestions to their top five, and on Monday, Oct. 14, fans can return to to cast their votes. Online voting will remain open through Wednesday, Oct. 23.

The winning name will be announced during pre-game festivities at Tuskegee’s homecoming football game on Saturday, Nov. 9, when the Golden Tigers take on the Miles College Bears.

During the month-long campaign, Golden Tiger fans can support the campaign, spread the word, and even seek support for their favorite name by using the hashtag #NameOurTiger. However, only the name suggestions and votes received through will count in campaign tabulations.
