COURSES FOR UNDERGRADUATES 

EENG 0192. FRESHMAN ENGR. DESIGN. 1st and 2nd Semesters and Summer. Lect. 0, Lab 3, 3 credits. The engineering process involves several components. The starting point in the process is the identification of the engineering problem. This course introduces students to the engineering process. Focus is however on the engineering design process including conceptualization of an idea, development analysis, and documentation. The student will be introduced to MATLAB, a standard tool for mathematical analysis, PSPICE, a standard tool for electrical engineering analysis, as well as Arduino board interfacing and programming to build simple embedded systems. Prerequisite(s): None

EENG 0210. PYTHON PROGRAMMING. 1st and 2nd semesters. Lect. 3, 3 credits. Foundations of computational thinking using the Python programming language. Topics include basics: variables and expressions; flow control: decision and loop structures, data structures: strings, lists, tuples, dictionaries and sets; functions; input/output and file manipulation; modules and libraries; errors and exception handling; object-oriented concepts; recursion; debugging and testing techniques. Prerequisite: MATH 0207. 

EENG 0221. LINEAR NETWORK AND CIRCUITS I. 1st and 2nd Semester. Lect. 0, Lab 3, 3 credits. Kirchhoff's Laws, nodal analysis, mesh analysis, superposition, source transformation, RL and RC circuits, time constants, transient analysis, unit step function, combined steady state and transient analysis, analysis of RIC circuits. Introduction to AC Analysis. Prerequisite: MATH 0207. Corequisite: EENG 221L.

EENG 0225 - DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS AND LINEAR ALGEBRA WITH MATLAB. 1st and 2nd semesters. Lect. 3, 3 credits. Fundamental techniques and tools for physical systems modeling through the study of first-order and second-order ordinary differential equations. Structure of mathematical systems through the study of linear algebra; i.e., linear equations and inverse matrices, vector spaces and subspaces, eigenvalues and eigenvectors, and positive definite matrices. Prerequisite: MATH 0208. 

EENG 0260. INTRODUCTION TO LOGIC CIRCUITS. 1st and 2nd Semester. Lect. 3, Lab 0, 3 credits. An introduction to the analysis and design of logic circuits. Topic includes: Number systems, Boolean Algebra, Boolean functions, truth tables, Kamaugh maps, Gates, flip-flops, combinational and sequential logic circuits, design methods and verification, and an introduction to CAD tools for logic design. Prerequisite: EENG 0292. Corequisite: EENG 260L.

EENG 0261.MICROPROCESSOR PROGRAMMING APPLICATTION DEVELOPMENT FOR ENGINEERS. 1st and 2nd Semester. Lect. 3, Lab 0, 3 credits.Overview of microprocessor machine- level programming design and development using C, assembly-language programming, and hardware interfaces. Introduction to algorithm design, analysis and experimentation with application to engineering problems. Prerequisite(s): EENG 0260.

COEG 0300. DISCRETE MATHEMATICS FOR ENGINEERS. 1st semester. Lect. 3, Lab 0, 3 credits. Foundations of discrete mathematics. Topics include proof techniques and induction, sets, relations, and functions, recursion and recurrence Relations, asymptotics notation, asymptotic equivalence and O-notation, combinatorics, discrete probability,  algebraic structures, and finite-state machines, graphs, and trees. Prerequisite:  MATH 0207, EENG 210 and CSCI 229.

COEG 0305. FUNDAMENTALS OF CYBERSECURITY ENGINEERING. 1st and 2nd semesters. Lect. 3, 3 credits. This comprehensive introductory course provides fundamental knowledge in the principles, processes, policies, applications and techniques/tools of cybersecurity engineering. Topics include communication and network security; concepts, principles and tools/techniques for web, operating systems, data databases and cloud computing security; cryptography and privacy; risk analysis and incident response, ethical and legal considerations. Prerequisite: EENG 0210 and CSCI 0229.

COEG 0311. DATA STRUCTURES AND ALGORITHMS. 1st and 2nd Semesters. Lect. 3, Lab 0, 3 Credits. This course introduces abstract data structures, analysis and design of complex algorithms. Topics include abstract data types: stacks, queues, lists, trees, hash tables, graphs and their applications. Analysis and design of algorithms including sorting, searching, recursive, and greedy algorithms are also discussed. Asymptotic algorithm analysis is introduced for complex algorithm analysis. Prerequisite: CSCI 0229 

EENG 0315. ELECTROMAGNETIC THEORY & APPLICATION.1st and 2nd Semesters. Lect. 3, Lab 0, 3 credits. Electrostatic and magnetostatic fields; Time varying fields and Maxwell's equations; Electromagnetic wave propagation through free space and dielectric mediums; Wave propagation through transmission lines; Waveguides; Antenna and radiation. EENG 0322. LINEAR NETWORK AND CIRCUITS II. 1st and 2nd Semester. Lect. 3, Lab 0, 3 credits. Current and voltage relationships for circuits with a.c. excitation sources. Circuit laws and network theorems using frequency domain techniques. Introduction of power systems such as multi-phase networks and transformers. Prerequisites: EENG 0221, EENG 221L. 

EENG 0322L. LINEAR NETWORKs AND CIRCUITS II LAB. 1st and 2nd Semester. Lect. 0, Lab 3, 1 credit. Construction and analysis of electrical circuits. Use of electronic instruments such as oscilloscope, function generator, power supply, and multimeter to measure quantities related to RLC circuits. Measurement of frequency response and determination of network function of an RLC circuit. Use of PSPICE circuit simulation software to simulate and analyze electrical circuits. Prerequisite(s): MATH 0208, EENG 0221, EENG 0221L.

EENG 0323. SIGNALS AND SYSTEMS. 1st and 2nd Semester. Lect. 3, Lab 0, 3 credits. Signal analysis. Time domain analysis of electrical/electronic circuits. Fourier and Laplace Transforms and selected applications in circuit and system theory. Prerequisites: EENG 0322, and MATH 0307. 

EENG 0324. DIGITAL SIGNAL PROCESSING. 2nd Semester. Lect. 3, Lab 0, 3 credits. Discrete-time signals and systems; Z-Transforms; Discrete Fourier Transforms; Digital Filter Design techniques; Computation of Discrete Fourier Transforms. Prerequisite EENG 0323 or Permission of Instructor.

EENG 0360. MICROPROCESSORS.  Ist and 2nd Semester. Lect. 2, Lab 3, 3 credits. Operation and applications of microprocessors including system level organization, analysis of specific processors and software and hardware interface design. Microprocessor development systems including in-circuit emulation, programming using higher-level languages, and implementation of application algorithms. Laboratory work is required. EENG 0380. PRINCIPLES OF ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING. 1st and 2nd Semester. Lect. 3, Lab 0, 3 credits. (For non EENG majors only). Circuit analysis; network theorems, electronic devices and engineering applications, electromagnetics, digital devices, electromechanical systems, electronic circuits, instruments and instrumentation systems. EENG 0390. ENGINEERING ETHICS AND SOCIETY. 1st and 2nd Semester. Lect. 3, Lab 0, 3 credits. This course provides students with an understanding of the nature of engineering ethics in the societal context and discusses contemporary ethical issues in the engineering profession through illustrative case studies. Prerequisites: Advisors approval or junior standing.

EENG 0400. MICROELECTRONICS. 2nd Semester. Lect. 3, Lab 0, 3 credits. Physics of semiconductor devices. Theory of operation of semiconductor devices including semiconductor fundamentals, PN junction diodes, bipolar junction transistors, and field-effect transistors. EENG 0401. COMMUNICATION THEORY. 2nd Semester. Lect. 3, Lab 0, 3 credits. This course gives an introduction to basic principles of communication theory with emphasis on analog modulation systems. The topics to be covered are a review of signals and systems, amplitude, phase and frequency modulation, modulated waveform generation and detection techniques, effects of noise in analog communication systems and frequency division multiplexing. Prerequisite(s): EENG 0323.

EENG 0402. FUNDAMENTALS OF ENERGY AND POWER SYSTEMS. 1st and 2nd semesters. Lect. 3, Lab 0, 3 credits. Provide solid knowledge in fundamentals of power systems: generation, distribution and utilization systems. Analysis of three -phase circuits. Magnetic circuit concepts. Analysis of transformers and AC machines. Balanced Power Systems at Steady state conditions. Transmission line calculations. Systems analysis using bus admittance and impedance matrices. COEG 0405. INTERNET OF THINGS. 1st and 2nd semesters. Lect. 3, 3 credits. Practical introduction to web technologies and IoT networking fundamentals; overview of hardware platforms for IoT implementations; IoT architectures and applications; Security aspects of IoT; IoT application development protocols and the design of back-end applications; Case studies; hands-on designs and implementations of IoT systems for selected applications. Prerequisite: EENG 0210, CSCI 0229, EENG 0360 and EENG 0425. 

COEG 0410. COMPUTER HARDWARE DESIGN. 1st and 2nd Semesters. Lect. 3, Lab 0, 3 Credits. The course introduces core concepts of computer hardware design. Design of arithmetic and logic units, control units, Instruction set architectures (CISC and RISC), microprogramming, pipelining, memory systems and hierarchy, and I/O architectures are studied. System on Chip, Network on Chip, hardware programming using Verilog/VHDL is introduced. Modern parallel computer architecture is introduced with examples. Students have semester long individual/group projects on hardware design. Prerequisite: EENG 0360. 

COEG 0411. HARDWARE SECURITY. 1st and 2nd Semesters. Lect. 3, Lab 0, 3 Credits. The course introduces core concepts of hardware security and its importance in designing secure hardware systems. Topics include digital system design flow and vulnerabilities, modern cryptographic hardware design, crypto processors, trusted platform modules, side-channel attacks, hardware trojan detection and isolation. Prerequisite: COEG 0305, COEG 0410. 

EENG 0424L. SENIOR ELECTRICAL LAB. 1st and 2nd semesters. Lect. 0, Lab, 1 credit. Laboratory and design experience on two, three and four terminal semiconductor devices, three-phase systems and transformers, power factor correction, power system simulation, frequency modulation, amplitude modulation. Prerequisite: EENG 0400, 0401, EENG 0402.

EENG 0425 COMPUTER NETWORK DESIGN. 1st and 2nd Semester. Lect. 3, Lab 0, 3 credits. Introduces the fundamental concepts and principles of network design and analysis, and introduces computer network architecture using a layered approach. Emphasis on network design and telecommunication traffice engineering, flow and congestion control, switching and routing, techniques for evaluating network performance, quality of service, and application level protocols such as RTP, peer-to-peer networks, and overlay networks. Prerequisite: Basic knowledge about computer networks and probability, or Permission of instructor. Prerequisite: COEG 0305, EENG  0260.

EENG 0427 - Internet Security for Electrical Engineers.1st and 2nd Semester. Lect. 3, Lab 0, 3 credits. Provides the foundation for understanding the key issues associated with symmetric and public-key cryptographic algorithms and design principles. It covers important network security tools and applications relating to electronic mail security, Internet protocol security and web security. Examine at system level internet security issues including the threat of and countermeasure for intruders and viruses and the use of firewalls and trusted systems needed to reach and maintain a state of acceptable security in networked systems. Focuses on the concepts and methods associated with planning, designing, implementing, managing and auditing security at all levels and on all system platforms. EENG 0431. CONTROL SYSTEMS. 1st and 2nd Semester. Lect. 3, Lab 0, 3 credits. Fundamental principles of open loop and closed loop automatic control systems. System functions. Analysis of closed loop control systems and their transient and steady state response; stability and design of stabilizing controllers. EENG 0432. DIGITAL CONTROL. 1st and 2nd Semester. Lect. 3, Lab 0, 3 credits. Introduction to analysis and design of discrete data control systems using frequency domain techniques. Real- time digital filtering techniques; application of digital computers in closed loop feedback systems. Prerequisite(s): EENG 324

EENG 0434. DIGITAL IMAGE PROCESSING. 1st and 2nd Semester. Lect. 3, Lab 0, 3 credits. Principal methods for coding, digitizing, storing, processing, and displaying images. COEG 0445 ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE FOR ENGINEERS. 1st and 2nd Semester. Lect. 2, Lab 0, 3 credit. Provides a foundation in artificial intelligence. Topics include propositional and first order logic, goal trees and rule-based expert systems, search and probabilistic algorithms, visual object recognition, game theory, machine learning algorithms, natural language processing, model merging and cross-modal coupling. Lect. 3, Lab 0, 3 credits.  Provides a practical understanding of the essential knowledge and skills for cybersecurity professionals with practical hands-on learning units. Topics include Threats, attacks and vulnerabilities, Identity and Access Management, Technologies and Tools, risk management, architecture and design. Cryptography and PKI, Risk Management. Practical hands-on learning units on physical asset protection, localhost security, local network security, internet security, enterprise network security, industrial and medical IT security. EENG 0460. DIGITAL DESIGN. 1st Semester. Lect. 3, Lab 0, 3 credits. Design of digital logic circuits. Topics include: Logic gates and flip-flop level design using standard integrated circuit chips, programmable logic array design, system level design using a hardware description language (VHDL), computer aided design tools used to create and verify designs, fault diagnosis and testing. Prerequisite: EENG 0260. 

EENG 0461. EMBEDDED SYSTEM DESIGN. 2nd semester. Lect. 3, Lab 0, 3 credits.Design of embedded systems including basic hardware and software analysis, peripheral interfaces are emphasized. Real-time control of physical systems and real-time data processing systems are analyzed. in-depth analysis of Input/Output (I/O) devices, busses, and processors for embedded systems. EENG 0474. WIRELESS COMMUNICATIONS. 1st and 2nd Semester. Lect. 3, Lab 0, 3 credits. This course covers fundamental theory and design of high-capacity wireless communication systems. Topics include trunking, propagation, frequency reuse, modulation, coding, and equalization. Emerging cellular and PCS systems are analyzed. Prerequisite(s): EENG 0324, EENG 0473, EENG 479, senior standing or permission of instructor.

EENG 0475. MATHEMATICAL OPTIMIZATION FOR ENGINEERS. 1st and 2nd Semester. Lect. 3, Lab 0, 3 credits. Optimization is central to any problem involving decision making, whether in engineering or in economics. Optimization theory and methods deal with selecting the best alternative in the sense of the given objective function. While the mathematics of optimization has been studied for about a century, several related recent developments have stimulated new interest in the field. in this course, the topics of unconstrained optimization, linear programming, quadratic programming and convex optimization including semidefinite programming will be covered. Prerequisite(s): MATH 0307 and EENG 0476

EENG 0476. MATRIX AND LINEAR ALGEBRA. 1st and 2nd Semester. Lect. 3, Lab 0, 3 credits. As the mathematical discipline for studying vector space and linear transformation, linear algebra forms the basis for much of modern mathematics, theoretical, applied, and computational. Linear algebra plays an important role in electrical engineering. in this course, the topics of matrix algebra, vector spaces, linear transformation, eigenvalues and eigenvectors, and their applications in solving the systems of differential equations will be covered. Prerequisite(s): MATH 0208 and MATH 0307.

EENG 0478. MATHEMATICAL MODELING AND SIMULATION. 1st and 2nd Semester. Lect. 3, Lab 0, 3 credits. A mathematical model is an abstract model that uses mathematical language to describe the behavior of a system, and mathematical modeling is the link between mathematics and the rest of the world. The methods of mathematical modeling and simulation are used widely in sciences and engineering disciplines. in this course, the topics of dynamic models, probability models, optimization models and the simulation of dynamic models will be covered. Prerequisite(s): MATH 0307 and EENG 0493M

COEG 0545. ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE FOR ENGINEERS. 1st and 2nd Semesters and Summer. Lect. 3, Lab 0, 3 credits. Provides a foundation in artificial intelligence. Topics include propositional and first order logic, goal trees and rule-based expert systems, search and probabilistic algorithms, visual object recognition, game theory, machine learning algorithms, natural language processing, model merging and cross-modal coupling. COEG 0556. CYBER SECURITY ENGINEERING PRACTICE. 1st and 2nd Semesters and Summer. Lect. 0, Lab 3, 3 credits. Provides a practical understanding of the essential knowledge and skills for cybersecurity professionals with practical hands-on learning units. EENG 5381. COMMUNICATION LAB. 1st Semester. Lect. 3, Lab 0, 3 credits. This laboratory provides experiments involving communication circuits and systems that are covered in EENG 0538 Communication Theory. Corequisite: EENG 0538. 

EENG 0539. WIRELESS COMMUNICATION. 2nd Semester. Lect. 3, Lab 0, 3 credits. This course covers fundamental; theory and design of high capacity wireless communication systems.
