The ϲͼ, College of Veterinary Medicine's (TUCVM) Department of Graduate Public Health (DGPH) attended a career day at the Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH) on September 26, 2023. The ADPH Career Day allowed everyone in attendance to network and meet others in the public health domain. The director or appointee for each bureau of the State of Alabama’s public health program greeted students and discussed the role and function of their bureau. TUCVM’s DGPH faculty and students made several essential networking connections during the event that will energize DGPH’s summer experience and internship opportunities for students.
“We made inroads to adding to our adjunct pool and developing new grant and contract partnerships. The students also assisted in recruiting efforts by talking with UAB undergraduates about our program,” said Dr. Torhonda Lee, Department Head of the Graduate Public Health Program at TUCVM.
“The event was inspiring to see such a diverse workforce, including several minority women in leadership roles. It was also a humbling experience where many professionals expressed that they are looking to students such as ours to step up to leadership roles in the profession as many prepare to soon enter the retirement stage.
