Student organizations including Fraternities and Sororities contribute to the development and education of °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Êͼ¹ÒÅÆ students, their dedication to community services, and academic achievement which makes all student organizations valued components of °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Êͼ¹ÒÅÆ life.Â
Although we applaud the contributions of each student organization, those requiring a membership intake must adhere to intake program guidelines developed and administered by the Office of Student Life and Development. °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Êͼ¹ÒÅÆ is responsible to ensure that intake program and its related activities enhance the students' experience and are not in anyway detrimental to the University, the organization or the individual student. Consequently, the University musty provide guidelines for the effective planning and management of the intake programs.Â
HAZING of any kind violates Alabama State Law and the policies, rules, and regulations of °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Êͼ¹ÒÅÆ.
Specifically:
1. °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Êͼ¹ÒÅÆ prohibits any form of hazing, physical, or mental abuse at any time before, during, or after the intake period.Â
2. At no time shall an organization ask or allow any of its prospective members to:
Damage or destroy property on or off campus
Participate in any activity that will disrupt regular campus activitiesÂ
Participate in any activity that will reflect unfavorably upon the University or the organizationÂ
3. Any chapter found to be in violation will be suspended from activity on campus, after reviewing the circumstances surrounding the activity.Â
4. It is required that all membership intake activities are scheduled to conform to the approved times for all student activities on campus.
6:00 a.m.- 11:00 p.m. Sunday- Thursday
6:00 a.m.- 1:00 a.m. Friday and Saturday
Who Should I contact to report hazing to? And, why is this important to do?Â
A hazing incident may be reported by anyone; a person who the activity directly affected, a person who was involved in the incident; faculty/staff, patents, friends, or community members. If you have witnessed or have knowledge of a possible hazing incudent please report the incident.Â
°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Êͼ¹ÒÅÆ's ability to investigate reported incidents, enfoce the university's expectations, and protect future students depends on the accuracy and specificity of the information provided. You are encouraged to provide as much specific detail as possible so that appropriate action can be taken to address the reported behavior. You have the option to submit a report anonymously, though officials may find it difficult to complete their investigation without knowing the source of the report.Â
